On this page, the layout for a horizontal family tree chart is used. However, small photos (embellished with sticker frames) take the place of boxes, which sticker borders replace straight lines in style.

This Tiffany-style family tree page is another example of how horizontal charts can be creatively adapted for scrapbooks.

Each blossom on this chart contains a family member's name and a number that corresponds to the page about that person's life.

This lovely page is an adaptation of the vertical style family tree chart.

Michele Gerbrandt describes the different types of family tree charts available, and how they can be modified for scrapbooking.

Gerbrandt says the best ways to organize a family tree is to begin with a chart:

    • A horizontal chart starts with the main person's name in the box at the bottom, and builds the ancestry up and out.

    • Vertical charts build a person's ancestry up from the bottom and to one side.

    • The fan chart is one in which the ancestry fans out from the bottom.

    • The hourglass charts ancestors up from the center, with descendants charted downward.
