Creating a grandparent's book is a great way to record special events for grandparents -- especially for those living far away. Here, designer Shelli Gardner creates a festive album and birthday page using two-part stamps. Materials: White stampable binder (optional)
8-1/2" x 11" smooth white cardstock
Red cardstock
Blue cardstock
Black cardstock (for mask)
Brilliant blue ink pad
Red ink pad
Orange ink pad
Green ink pad
Sponge
Alphabuilders stamp set
Checked frame stamp
Party-themed stamps
Journaling stamp
Acid-free adhesive
12" x 12" paper trimmer
Deckle-edge scissors
Stamp clean-up pad
Stamp cleaner
Blue gel pen
- Create a masking strip by cutting black card stock along long edge using deckle scissors.
- Then, trim 1/4" off short side and 1/4" off long side of white cardstock.
- Cover most of the white cardstock with the black masking strip, leaving about 1-1/2" exposed on the left side.
- Next, use brilliant blue ink to stamp a light border onto the white cardstock. Stamp more along the deckled edge to increase intensity and emphasize the edge.
- Use party-themed stamps to stamp "celebrate" over the border, using the brilliant blue ink. Stamp the first word in the center and word to the edges.
- For the heading (in this example, "Birthday Party"), combine stamps from the party stamp set and the Alphabuilders set to create each letter. Use blue to stamp the candle portion, orange for the candle's flame, and stamp the "b" in red (figure A).
- Stamp balloon and streamers in green, blue and red. Clean stamp in between the application of each color.
- Next, use brilliant blue to stamp corners with a "gift" motif stamp. Stamp the gift in blue and the bow in green (figure B). Add confetti in blue.
- Stamp two checkerboard frames in red on a separate piece of white cardstock and cut out.
- Mount cropped photos to the checkerboard frames, then mount the frames to blue cardstock.
- Adhere the framed, mounted photos to the scrapbook page, then adhere entire page to red cardstock.
- Use the same ink pad and stamps to create a coordinating binder cover, if desired.
