A lattice-covered wall gives a room the ambience of a garden patio. DIY Decorating & Design host Nancy Golden gives tips on creating this effect in your home. Many types of lattice are suitable for this sort of project. Standard 1/8" and 1/4" lattice, made of pressure-treated wood, comes in 4' by 8' sheets in both square and diamond patterns (figure A). Pressure-treated lattice must be allowed to dry outside for about a month before being painted. Plastic lattice, available in green, brown and white, is more expensive than wood, but its polished look makes it a better choice for use inside a home (figure B ). Sections of plastic lattice may be joined with H-shaped brackets and the edges finished with U-shaped brackets (figure C).
