    1. To hem the raw edges of the tablecloth fabric, iron on the fusible web. Keep it straight by lining it up with the check pattern in the fabric.

Note: The salvage edge is the smooth, unraveled edge of the fabric.

    2. After you've ironed on the web, peel off the paper backing (figure A). Follow the fusible web package instructions for how long to iron.

    3. To finish the edge, fold the ironed edge up once and then again, lining it up straight with the check pattern.

    4. To finish off the hem, iron the fabric until it adheres firmly to the fusible web.

Expert Tip: When purchasing your fabric for your sewing project, be sure and allow enough extra fabric for at least one miss cut piece.

    5. Cut pieces of dog and picnic themed fabric into four-inch squares. For each square cut out a piece of fusible web just a little bit smaller than the four-inch square.

    6. Place a piece of fusible web -- paper-backing side down -- on a towel and place the fabric on top of the piece of fusible web. Iron over both to attach the web to the fabric.

    7. Trace desired letter on fusible web paper (figure B).

    8. Cut out the letter and remove the paper backing from the fusible web.

    9. Pull the fusible web off the fabric letter.

    10. Position the letters on the blanket to spell pet's name and go over the letters with the iron one last time to firmly adhere (figure C).

    Picnic Tips

    • Ants are not a welcome addition to your picnic, especially when you have a blanket on the ground. Spread some talcum powder around the perimeter of your blanket and this will prevent the little critters from ruining your picnic.

    • When you go on a picnic, remember to pack a first-aid kit. You never know when someone will fall and scrape a knee. You can pack Band-Aids, hydrogen peroxide, anti-itch cream, anti-inflammation cream, etc. Also, do not forget to pack the sunscreen.

    • Before your dog goes out with other dogs, it is best to know the proper vaccines for your dog. There are annual vaccinations and there is a vaccine called kennel cough that is given twice a year. Speak to your veterinarian before having your dog out.
