Teach your children to properly respect and care for your cat with these tips from pet expert Thayne Maynard. - Teach kids to handle cats properly. They should avoid picking the cat up by the scruff of the neck, instead holding the cat while supporting its chest with one hand, and the hindquarters with the other hand. Holding the cat close to the body will prevent it from getting antsy.
- Kids should be taught not to tease cats, but to simply play with cat toys.
- Cats shouldn't be bothered while they are sleeping or eating.
- Have kids help with feeding, water, grooming and other care and teach children the importance of keeping housecats inside.
