Company of Animals visits a Cat Fanciers of America cat show, in which 437 breeds -- among them 31 pure breeds and 37 household pets -- are represented. Judging Each breed is judged according to its own standards, which are written by breeders and approved by the CFA board of directors. A judge may view as many as 200 cats in a day, and judges apply the same standards to each representative of a breed. When judging an Abyssinian (figure A), for instance, a judge will look for a variety of traits, including the following: - Rich ticking, resiliency and clarity of the coat
- Long legs
- Rounded planes
- Correct ear placement
- Good eye shape
- Absence of "bracelets" and "necklaces."
Note: CFA holds cat shows throughout the country all year long and the CFA International Show once a year; the location varies, so for information on any that may be coming to your area, contact your local chapter of Cat Fanciers of America.
