An elegant glass of champagne really sets the mood for a fabulous dinner party. For this occasion, a 1988 Mumm Cordon Brut Rouge is chosen to be served to the dinner guests. Correspondent "Party Bob" shows Party at Home host Heidi Bohay how to open a bottle of your favorite champagne with ease and grace, and offers some tips that will showcase your skills with the bubbly.

    • Party Bob says that the best glass for serving champagne is an elongated flute (figure A). As the bubbles rise to the top, and the smaller opening prevents them from escaping too quickly when they are exposed to the air.

    • Hold the bottle away from everybody so the cork won't cause injury when dislodged.

    • Peel the tinfoil from the top and be sure the cork stays in place when you remove the wire screen (figure B).

    • Keep one hand over the cork and place the other on the bottom of the bottle ( figure C). Twist the bottle to dislodge the cork.

    • Pour a small amount of the champagne in the glass to wet the bottom; this helps ensure that when the rest is poured, there isn't so much foam.

    • Hold the glass by the stem so the champagne stays cool.
