Materials: Desserts Various colors of melting chocolate Waxed paper Lollipop molds Plastic squirt bottles Flat-tip artist paintbrushes Wooden chopsticks Lollipop sticks Floral wire - There are a variety of tasteful desserts being offered at your supermarket, bakery or gourmet markets. To save yourself some time, you can take advantage of these treats. There is also the option of making your own desserts.
- Place the melting chocolate into plastic squirt bottles and melt them in the microwave. Using a microwave to melt chocolate is quicker that using a double boiler, but there are some things to keep in mind. You just need to melt the chocolate and not burn it -- that means you will need to keep an eye on it. Cook chocolate for 10 to 45 seconds, then stir (figure A). Repeat this process until chocolate is melted into a smooth, creamy consistency.
- To make your initial chocolate forms, draw an outline of the shape with your squirt bottle. Use the flat tip brush to fill in the outline with the melted chocolate (figure B).
- The chocolate will set within an hour, but for a quicker set you can place the completed chocolate forms in the freezer.
- Use the lollipop molds to create colorful lollipops (figure C) you can place in the cakes.
- Use the different colors of melted chocolate that you have in the squirt bottles and fill in the details of the lollipop molds (figure D), then fill the mold with chocolate.
- You can insert the lollipop sticks in the mold, or curl some floral wire and bury the wire in the center of the mold with one end sticking out so you can place it in the cakes.
Expert Tip: Sweets are definitely something to think about and consider. However, it can also be simple: what about getting fudge brownies at your bakery and cutting them intoquarters or buying little bite-sized cookies. You can also provide a fruit-baased dessert for friends who are conscious of their calories. Just place fruits on a plate with a bowl of whipped cream for indulgence.
