    Figure B

Create a unique silhouetted look by applying grape leaves and other shapes to walls and painting over them. When the shapes are removed, a negative design is left, giving the room a three-dimensional feeling.

    Materials:

Latex wall paint in two colors: an alabaster-white base coat and a beige top coat
    Paintbrush or roller
    Paint conditioner
Leaf shapes: handmade paper patterns of real leaves or leaf shapes purchased at a craft store
    Spray adhesive
    Water
    Clean rag or sea sponge
    Plastic container for paint

    1. Paint the wall in the base color and let dry.

    2. Apply spray adhesive to the leaf shapes, and arrange them on the wall in the desired pattern.

    3. Mix equal parts latex paint, water and paint conditioner in a plastic container. Dip a rag or sponge in the mixture, and squeeze out the excess. Working out from the center of each leaf, apply the mixture to the wall in a sweeping or a dabbing motion (figure A).

    4. Peel the leaf shapes from the wall to reveal the subtle silhouettes.

    5. If desired, use spray adhesive to attach random leaf shapes over the silhouettes for more depth and dimension (figure B).
    Variation:
    • Get creative and create patterned walls with a variety of shapes: hearts, stars and moons, coffee cups -- you name it.
