Wire Web Necklace
- Using the round nose pliers, gently curl the ends of the 14-gauge wire away from you to create loops. Using the flat nose pliers, wiggle the wire ends to close the loops (figure A).
- Wrap the looped wire around the mandrel to create a rounded "U" shaped frame (figure B).
- Using the chasing hammer and bench block, gently hammer the frame to work harden it and give it a more finished look.
- Wrap the end of the 22-gauge wire around the upper left side of the "U." Using the needle nose pliers and your fingers, coil the 22-gauge wire around the 16-gauge wire a few times, then trim the end using the flush cutters. Flatten the trimmed end down using the needle nose pliers.
- Pull the long end of the wire across the "U" and wrap, trim and flatten (as in Step 3) at the bottom center area of the "U" (figure C).
- Perform Steps 4 and 5 twice more, making sure that all three 22-gauge "spokes" cross each other at a center point. For a more natural "spider web" look, make this crossing point slightly off-center (figure D).
- Wrap one end of the 26-gauge wire a few times around all three 22-gauge wires at the point where they cross each other. Then, weave the long end of the wire over one of the spokes and wrap it around once. Moving in an outward, circular direction, continue wrapping the 26-gauge over each spoke. When you reach the outside of the web, make one final wrap with the 26-gauge wire, coiling several times (figure E), trimming and flattening (as in Step 4).
- Now thread all three strands of satin cord through the two loops at the top of the pendant. Finish with bullet ends and a hook clasp.
