Materials: Colorful paper or construction paper Stick glue Markers Scissors Colored pencils Ruler Blank stationary cards Envelopes - Cut colorful paper to fit inside your blank card that is one inch shorter than both the width and height of the total size of your card (figure A). (Our cards are 6-1/4" x 4-1/2", so we will cut our paper 5-1/4" x 3-1/2.") This is the INSIDE CARD. Fold in half.
- Next, on the folded edge of the INSIDE card, cut two slits about 2 inches apart and about 1/2 inch deep (figure B).
- Fold the center section in on itself so that when you close the card the middle of the folded edge is in the card. This is the HINGE where your "art" will go (figure C).
- On the inside of the top flap, draw and color a background scene. We are keeping with our "ocean" theme so we created an underwater scene.
- Draw and cut out a character to go in your scene. We used a fish (figure D ).
- Also, cut a paper tab that is about 2" x 2" and glue your character on it. Then glue this to the inside of the hinge, so when you open and close the card the character will stand up (figure E).
- For the party information cut and glue a piece of white paper that is smaller than the inside of your card to list all of the information like: Whose Party -- When is it -- Where is it -- What time is it -- and RSVP. If you have access to a computer, type it out. If you do not have a computer, you can use colored markers and write it by hand.
- Decorate the front of your card with markers.
- Address your envelopes and remember to be neat!
Tip: Have an adult supervise when using scissors. Products: All products available at craft, art supply, stationary, and all-purpose stores nationwide. No special products needed.
