All it takes to check for proper inflation in your tires is a simple tire gauge, and the knowledge of the proper pressure-capacity for your tires. - To find out the proper air pressure, look for a tire decal that may be in the trunk, glove box or on the edge of one of the doors. The capacity should also be embossed on the side-wall of the tire.
- To check the pressure in your tires, first remove the screw-off cap from the valve stem.
- There's a small pin in the center of the tire gauge. Place the gauge so that the pin lines up with the pin in the center of the valve, and press the gauge firmly against the valve stem.
- An indicator stick should pop out of the end of the gauge. Remove the gauge from the valve, and read the last number showing on the indicator stick. That's the air pressure in your tire.
- If the pressure is low, add some air until the pressure reaches the recommended amount.
- Check all four tires, as well as the spare in your trunk.
